FamilyTreeDNA Box |
You've decided to have your Y-DNA fully sequenced, or the co-called Big Y-700, at FamilyTreeDNA. Now that you've received your results, what's next to do to maximize your benefits and contribute to the development of genetic genealogy for other users?
I can say that by thoroughly exploring the FamilyTreeDNA website and regularly visiting Discover and my Block Tree, I'm in touch with almost all of my "cousins" from my R-Y42738 branch. Together, we're reconstructing our ancestors' migration paths, connections to archaeological cultures, and historical events. It's fascinating!
Step 1.
This simple thing will be very helpful. Please enter your earliest known ancestor in the settings (even if it's just your grandfather or father). It's very simple:
(1) Log in to Family Tree DNA and go to settings > genealogy > earliest known ancestors:
https://www.familytreedna.com/
It should look like this (see Fig. 1 with screen of my account).

(2) And then provide us with the data. This will help us better determine the geographical location (Country of origin!) of our common ancestor and help us better understand the history of our haplogroup.
I'm asking for your help in the name of many users of FamilyTreeDNA. It's not a lot of work. I can help you step by step, you can write to me.
Step 2.
Visit Discover Haplogroup Reports and then > Suggested Projects
Join suggested project or projects. Thanks to this, there is a chance that you will learn the names of people from your clade (your branch of the Y-DNA tree), you will be able to better recognize the migrations of your ancestors and the ancestors of your "neighbors". See how it looks on my branch (Fig 2.):

Step 3.
To extend the benefits of your Big Y-700, send your data to another service, YFull. There you can find more "cousins." See my profile on YFull (Fig. 3 & 4):
